The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) is seeking applications from eligible applicants for the post of Radio Operator.
ICRC works worldwide to provide humanitarian assistance to people affected by conflict and armed violence.
Responsibilities
- Operate all types of radio (VHF and HF) including phone/satellite equipment for voice and data communication
- Maintain daily radio and operations in the field mobile log
- Facilitate radio and telecommunication contacts and maintain a permanent field follow-up according to internal guidelines
- Immediately share with management any information that can affect the operational activities of the ICRC
- Register and treat incoming and outgoing information, confidentially, rapidly and with accuracy
- Keep a record and track satellite equipment, portable radios and other equipment in the radio room and ensure that they are constantly in good working condition
- Examine and operate new equipment prior to installation to ensure that it performs properly
- Report all faults or irregularities relating to the efficient functioning of the radio room and/or the equipment to the radio operator supervisor or the ICT department
- Follow communication and transmission activity via telecommunications equipment
- Ensure constant contact with people moving in the field and take appropriate action as stipulated under security rules and internal guidelines
- Act quickly in the event of an emergency and contact relevant management to contain and help solve critical incidents
- Update lists of field movements, messages transmitted, etc
- Maintain a detailed incident log for security reports and proactively maintain information flow on security-related matters, forwarding to management regular security reports
Requirements
- Minimum of National Diploma
- Diploma in ICT or Electronic, additional vocational training in Electronics, Telecommunication, I.T. or similar field will be an asset
- Experience in communications/radio operations within NGOs or similar functions, preferably with an international organisation
- Good knowledge of radio (HF and VHF) technology and satellite communication
- Two years, minimum, of work experience
- Proficiency in English and Hausa
- Computer literacy with respect to Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
