The Organised Crime and Corruption Reporting Project (OCCRP) is seeking to fill the position of Investigative Journalist.
OCCRP is a global nonprofit media organisation that is reinventing investigative journalism for the public good.
Responsibilities
- Work closely with OCCRP’s investigative editors to identify and pursue hard-hitting, follow-the-money investigations
- Join teams of other reporters from OCCRP’s regional teams and partner organisations to collaborate on the organisation’s biggest and most complex stories
- Be the frontline of investigative excellence for OCCRP’s network of journalists
- Understand and always seek to uphold OCCRP’s high standards for levels of proof, fairness, accuracy, and newsworthiness
- Utilise commercial databases, OSINT, sources and other tools to provide information as needed to advance stories
- Offer your investigative skills and experience to OCCRP’s member centres and partners where required
Requirements
- Proven track record of reporting investigations, with preference for follow-the-money stories and related investigative skills
- Comfortable working independently and under pressure, and able to meet tight deadlines
- Good storytelling skills, with the ability to turn complex topics into enjoyable, readable copy
- Attention to detail and outstanding organisational skills
- Understanding of libel/slander, privacy and other laws that affect journalism is a plus
- Proficiency in languages other than English, especially Russian or Spanish, is a plus
