South Africa: HBRF Loses Case over Lockdown

With the cases of Covid-19 rising in South Africa, President Cyril Ramaphosa declared a 21-day lockdown as part of measures to curb the spread of the deadly virus. However, the Hola Bon Renaissance Foundation (HBRF) filed a case against the president at the Constitutional Court, saying that the shutdown was unconstitutional.

However, the Constitutional Court dismissed the foundation’s application to have the lockdown declared unconstitutional. The court said, ‘The Constitutional Court has considered the application for direct access to this court on an urgent basis. It has concluded that the application should be dismissed as it bears no reasonable prospects of success’.
