Lifeline Education Foundation (LEF) has applauded the efforts of the Kaduna State Government, Nigeria, in containing the spread of Covid-19 in the state. The Executive Director of the Foundation, Mr. Tijjani Aliyu, in a telephone interview with the members of the press in Kaduna made the commendation.
Mr. Aliyu stated that the state government had taken the laudable step of seeing to Almajirai, street urchins, returning to their families. He said, ‘There was no reason for these children, at a tender age, to keep migrating far away from home in search of Qur’anic knowledge when they can do so within their immediate environment’.
The Kaduna State Commissioner for Human Services and Social Development, Mrs. Hafsat Baba, confirmed that more than 5,000 Almajirai were returned to their families as part of measures to contain the spread of Covid-19. She further stated that it was necessary to return them to their families because of the unhealthy conditions in which they lived, adding that they were better off with their families.
