Nigeria: FME Activates Health Desks

With the Nigerian government currently directing all of its efforts towards the fight against Covid-19, the Federal Ministry of Environment (FME) has activated its health desks across the country. This positions the ministry to deploy personnel to disinfect and decontaminate public places, including markets, motor parks, airports and schools.

The Honourable Minister of Environment, Dr. Mohammad Mahmood Abubakar, in a statement said, ‘We have activated Environmental Health Desk in all 774 Local Government Areas in the country, to vigorously pursue grassroots advocacy, offer guidance and counselling, and to disinfect and decontaminate all risk-prone areas’.

The minister also added that the increase in Covid-19 cases, according to data from the National Centre for Disease Control, indicates that Nigeria needs to take tougher measures to contain the outbreak. The minister, who is also a member of the Presidential Task Force on the Control of Coronavirus, urged Nigerians to continue heeding the advice of experts and the regulations of government on Covid-19.
