Malawi: World Vision Emphasises Accountability

Programme Manager of World Vision in Ntcheu District, Malawi, Limbani Kumpolota, has emphasised the importance of transparency and accountability in the implementation of development projects in communities.

Kumpolota, while speaking at a policy standard compilation meeting with the Ntcheu council, also said that rights holders were key in the enhancement of development, Development Diaries learnt.

‘As an organisation, we believe in governance as it is key to development. Currently, we are implementing an advocacy initiative at the local level called Citizen Voice and Action (CVA) to improve accountability on public service delivery in the district’, she said.

She added that under the initiative service users are empowered to monitor service providers to enhance transparency and accountability to foster development.

The Ntcheu District Commissioner, Francis Matewere, commended the organisation for complementing government’s agenda on transparency and accountability.

He said that he was happy with what World Vision was doing as it is in line with government’s philosophy, expressing optimism that CVA would help in ensuring that the government takes responsibility for its mandate.
