Applications are now open for the Alliance Française de Nairobi Smartphone Film Competition 2020.

The competition is aimed at exposing and promoting young directors of short films and contribute to popularising the art of cinema.

The Alliance Française de Nairobi, which is a French language and cultural centre, was founded in 1949.

The not-for-profit organisation offers a programme of annual activities showcasing local and international arts and encouraging creativity.

Benefits

  • Winner will be awarded a cash prize of KShs100,000
  • The first runner up will be awarded a cash prize of KShs50,000
  • Winner of People’s Choice will be awarded a cash prize of KShs25,000

Eligibility

  • Entrants must be 18 years and above
  • Entrants should be a resident of Kenya
  • Only one film per entrant will be accepted
  • All films must be shot using smartphones
  • Films cannot exceed four minutes including credits
  • Entries must be based on ‘World Mpya’/‘Un Nouveau Monde’ theme
  • Films can be in English, French, Kiswahili or a mixture of the languages
  • Films can be in any one of the following video formats: MP4, AVI, WMV
  • Films must be entrant’s own original work and must not have been previously published or distributed in any form
