World Health Organisation (WHO) is seeking applications from eligible applicants for the post of National Professional Officer.
The primary role of WHO is to direct and coordinate international health within the United Nations system.
Responsibilities
- Provide strategic and technical support on assessing the epidemiological and programmatic situation, designing and implementing interventions, and mobilising resources for effective implementation of the priority activities, in particular, from the Global Fund for AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria
- Provide technical support to monitor and facilitate the implementation of the tuberculosis programme by supporting supervision, facilitating periodic monitoring activities, conducting programme reviews and technical missions, facilitating capacity building activities, collecting and analysing programmatic and surveillance data, designing and supporting programmatic operational research, as well as preparing documents for various purposes including policy recommendations, technical communications, advocacy material, donor proposals and reports
- Provide technical support for the development and implementation of a strategy for human resource capacity building on TB control for front line workers
- Provide technical support for development of advocacy material to strengthen the political leadership, the development of a multisectoral approach for the national TB response and increase domestic contribution to the funding of the national response
- Strengthen collaboration with international technical and funding partners including technical institutions, financial institutions and bilateral donors as well as for facilitating the timely mobilisation of experts
- Actively promote harmonisation and integration of tuberculosis programmes with overall health system strengthening strategies and intervention especially in the areas of disease surveillance, integrated people-centered care delivery, legislation and regulations including drug regulatory policies, social protection and health care financing to strengthen and sustain tuberculosis control
- Support production and transmission of quality data for the production of the global TB report in addition to the production of the national accountability framework with its attached scorecard
Requirements
- University degree in Medicine or public health from an accredited/recognised institute
- Postgraduate degree in Epidemiology or Public Health
- Proficiency in at least one statistical/epidemiological analysis package such as Epi Info or Stata
- Five years, minimum, of experience in prevention and control of tuberculosis, drug resistant tuberculosis, TB/HIV control at national/subnational level in a developing country
- Practical experience in programme review and strategic plan development
- Work experience with the WHO or other international experience will be a plus (desirable)
- Three years, minimum, of experience with large public health projects will be a plus (desirable)
- Broad knowledge of tuberculosis surveillance, monitoring, and/or evaluation
- Good communication skills
- Ability to interact with health professionals at various levels
- Ability to establish effective networks and working relationships with people of different nationalities and cultural background
- Knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet and data analysis, browsing and information searching online
- Expert knowledge of English
