Save the Children International (SCI) is seeking to fill the role of Livelihood Assistant.
The organisation works to ensure children around the world get health care, food and shelter as well as learning and child protection services.
Responsibilities
- Assist programme officers to ensure progress of programme according to developed schedule and workplan
- Assist in the coordination of livelihood activities
- Support in the process of beneficiary registration, community mobilisation and sensitisation
- Assist in promoting community participation and inclusion to encourage community ownership over activities implemented
- Ensure equal representation of various community groups in the implementation of activities
- Assist in the facilitation of community meetings, focus group discussion, etc., as required by the programme
- Keep programme officers and management updated with regard to security situation in the project implementation area
- Provide weekly field reports, capturing activity progress, lessons learnt as well as general situation and community updates and needs
- Document lessons learnt and success stories on the project
- Adhere to all Save the Children policies and procedures as outlined in its policies and procedure manuals
- Ensure the minimum standards of humanitarian relief are maintained in accordance with the Sphere Charter and Red Cross code of conduct
Requirements
- Relevant livelihoods experience, including report writing
- Degree in Agriculture or a related field or equivalent field experience
- Project management and implementation experience
- Commitment to working through systems of community participation and accountability
- Knowledge of monitoring and evaluation
- Experience in training staff
- Ability to represent the organisation at external events
- Knowledge of institutional donors and experience in developing proposals
- Ability to write clear and well-argued assessment and project reports
- Excellent communication skills
- Political and cultural sensitivity with qualities of patience, tact and diplomacy
- High level of written and spoken English
- Capacity and willingness to be extremely flexible and accommodating in difficult and, sometimes, insecure working circumstances
- Commitment to the aims and principles of Safe the Children
- In particular, good understanding of the organisation’s mandate and child focus
