The Angel of Hope Foundation (AoHF) has donated foodstuffs to ten charity homes in the Midlands Province of Zimbabwe.
The foundation donated the foodstuffs, including rice and cooking oil, to charity homes in Gweru, Kwekwe, Zvishavane, Shurugwi, and Silobela.
Midlands Provincial Affairs and Devolution Minister, Larry Mavima, said the donations were made as many charity homes were struggling to provide food due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
In Zimbabwe, many people are grappling with economic hardships that have been worsened by the pandemic.
In September 2020, USAID and WFP commenced cash disbursements for the Urban Social Assistance programme to provide relief for vulnerable families in eight urban areas struggling to meet their daily food needs.
Mavima commended the country’s first lady, Auxillia Mnangagwa, who owns the foundation, for ‘changing the lives of the ordinary people’.
‘You are a special type of person that changes lives and makes the world a better place. We thank you for this great donation to the Midlands Province’, Mavima said.
‘In these tough times, you have decided to think about the less-privileged as most of these homes you are donating to are struggling to cope because of Covid-19’.
A representative of the beneficiaries, who is a member of Queen of Peace Rehabilitation Home in Gweru, Stella Khumalo, thanked the foundation for the kind gesture.
She said the donation was timely as they really needed food support.
‘Covid-19 period had been difficult for a lot of homes the donation by Amai Mnangagwa came at the right time’, Khumalo said.
