#NigeriaElections2023: Governorship Results from States

The 2023 governorship elections in Nigeria have been concluded and results announced by Presiding Officers of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) are being uploaded to the commission’s results portal.

Development Diaries reports that governorship elections were held in 28 states while state legislative elections were held in all of Nigeria’s 36 states.

Elections were held in Adamawa, Bauchi, Borno, Gombe, Kwara, Lagos, Nasarawa, Ogun, Oyo, Yobe and Zamfara. Others are Abia, Akwa Ibom, Benue, Cross River, Delta, Ebonyi, Enugu, Jigawa, Kaduna, Kano, Katsina, Kebbi, Niger, Plateau, Rivers, Sokoto, and Taraba states.

3:50pm:

INEC has declared the PDP candidate, Caleb Mutfwang as Governor-Elect of Plateau State.

Mutfwang scored 525,299 votes to defeat his closest rival, Nantawe Yilwatda of the APC with 481,370 votes while Patrick Dakum of the Labour Party (LP) came a distant third with 60,310 votes.

3:30pm:

Sheriff Oborevwori of PDP wins Delta governorship poll.

INEC has declared the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Sheriff Oborevwori as the winner of the 18 March governorship election in Delta State.

According to the INEC State Returning Officer, Prof Georgewill Owunari, Sheriff Oborevwori polled 360,234 votes to defeat the APC Candidate Senator Ovie Omo-Agege who scored 240,229.

2:45pm: 

APC’s Francis Nwifuru declared winner of Ebonyi governorship election.

INEC has declared Francis Nwifiru of the APC winner of the 18 March governorship poll in Ebonyi State.

Development Diaries reports that Nwifuru polled 199,131 to defeat Ifeanyi Odii of the PDP who scored 80,191 and the Ben Odo of APGA who got 52,189.

10:45am:

Governor Bala Mohammed of the PDP has won the governorship election in Bauchi State for another four-year term.

Development Diaries reports that Mohammed polled 525,280 against his closest rival, Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar of the APC who polled 432,272.

10:00am:

Kebbi State election inconclusive.

The Independent National Electoral Commission has declared the Kebbi State governorship election inconclusive.

The INEC returning officer Professor Yusuf Sa’idu said the measures became necessary due to breaches of electoral laws that led to cancellations of results from polling units in 20 out of the 21 LGAs.

Before declaring the election inconclusive, APC had polled 388,258 votes as against the PDP’s 342,980 votes.

7:45am:

Abdullahi Sule re-elected in Nasarawa State governorship election.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced Governor Abdullahi Sule as the winner of the Nasarawa State governorship election.

Development Diaries reports that Sule (APC) polled 347,209 to beat his closest contender, David Ombugadu (PDP) who got 283,016 votes.

7:30am:

Yusuf Kabir of NNPP declared winner of Kano State governorship election.

The New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) governorship candidate for Kano State, Yusuf Kabir has been declared governor-elect, defeating Nasir Gawuna of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Development Diaries reports that Kabir polled a total of 1,019,602 votes to defeat his closest contender, Gawuna of the APC who polled 890,705 votes.

01:15am:

Sanwo-Olu declared winner of Lagos State governorship election.

He polled a total of 762,134 votes, defeating Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour of the Labour Party who scored 312,329 votes, followed by Abdul-Azeez Adediran, aka Jandor, with 62,449 votes.

Development Diaries reports that the election was marked by voter suppression, ethnic discrimination, political thuggery, and physical attacks on voters, electoral staff and security personnel.

08:59pm:

From Katsina State, northwest Nigeria, the Candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Dikko Radda, has been declared the winner of Saturday’s election.

Radda polled 859,892 votes to defeat his closest opponent, Yakubu Danmarke, of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who scored a total of 486,620 votes.

06:00pm:

From Yobe State, northeast Nigeria, INEC has declared the incumbent Governor of the state, Mai Mala Buni, as the winner of the 2023 governorship election.

Announcing the result at the INEC headquarters in Damaturu, the State Returning Officer, Umar Pate, said Buni of the All Progressives Congress (APC) polled 317,113 to defeat Sheriff Abdullahi of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who scored 104,259.

05:00pm:

From Gombe State, northeast Nigeria, the candidate of the ruling APC, Governor Inuwa Yahaya, has been declared the winner of Saturday’s election.

He polled 342,821 to defeat his close contender, Mohammed Jibrin Barde of the PDP, who scored 233,131.

04:45pm:

From Jigawa State, northwest Nigeria, INEC has declared the candidate of the APC, Umar Namadi, as the winner of the election.

He scored 618,449 votes to defeat his closest rivals, Mustafa Lamido of the PDP, who polled 368,726, and Aminu Ringim of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), who got 37,156 votes.

04:50pm:

From Ogun State, southwest Nigeria, Governor Dapo Abiodun has been reelected for a second term of four years.

INEC declared the APC candidate as the winner of the election in the state after polling 276,298 votes to defeat his closest rivals, Ladi Adebutu of the PDP, who scored 262,383 as well as Biyi Otegbeye of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), who got 94,754 votes.
