DEAN Initiative, an advocacy and campaign-focused organisation, has welcomed an award-winning environmental and water advocate, Iyanuoluwa Moyinoluwa Shittu, to its team.
Project Coordinator at the organisation, Semiye Michael, who announced the appointment of Shittu, said that the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) award winner had joined DEAN Initiative as Project Officer.
Development Diaries understands that Shittu, as a corps member, received an award in Benue State for providing drinking water, which was her community development project.
‘I believe in her abilities and will be there to support. We have a team of very young people learning and growing and I love it…’, he said in a Facebook post.
‘Prior to joining us, Iyanuoluwa (Shittu) had volunteered for a few organisations in different capacities’, the project coordinator told Development Diaries.
‘Her experience while volunteering with Nigerian Environmental Conservation Organisation…where she served as a member of the LOC that organised the first World Environmental Conservation Conference in 2018 at her alma mata, Federal University of Technology, Akure, opened her up to explore future possibilities in the development sector’.
The organisation, it was learnt, has been building the capacity of local government administrators on citizen engagement and budget literacy since 2015.
‘We have deployed civic tools to our host communities to increase the interest of the citizens governance process and election integrity’, he said.
‘The objective of the initiatives we create is to build strengthened voices and institutions that have good governance, transparency and accountability as their culture and operational standard especially at the local level’.
