The World Bank (WBG) is seeking to fill the role of Energy Specialist.
The bank, with 189 member countries and more than 120 offices worldwide, works with public and private sector partners, invests in groundbreaking projects and uses data, research, and technology to develop solutions to the most urgent global challenges.
The WBG consists of five specialised institutions: the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development (IBRD), the International Development Association (IDA), the International Finance Corporation (IFC), the Multilateral Investment Guarantee Agency (MIGA), and the International Centre for the Settlement of Investment Disputes (ICSID).
Responsibilities
- Support the World Bank engagement in renewable energy in Algeria
- Provide strategic support with the sustainable deployment of renewable energy (that includes the preparation of an important wind power programme and the promotion of self-generation) and other areas of energy engagement
- Provide inputs to and carry research for operational products/outputs for energy sector and country briefings, analytical and advisory reports and studies, and participate in energy sector strategy development and energy dialogue with the government of Algeria
- Help coordinate World Bank activities in Algeria related to other infrastructure sectors such as transport and digital development
- Provide technical support to various MNA energy teams working on other energy programmes within the MNA energy portfolio with particular focus on current and prospective engagements in North Africa
- Support coordination with development partners and liaise with government counterparts and the private sector, as needed, and in collaboration with IFC
- Participate in cross-sectoral teams in preparing multisectoral country engagement products in Algeria
Requirements
- Master’s degree in Engineering, Energy Planning/Economics, Business Administration, Finance or a related field
- Five years, minimum, of relevant experience in the energy sector, with demonstrated ability to engage credibly with clients and stakeholders on a range of issues of energy sector
- Experience in energy sector development such as energy transition and technologies, energy policy, utility reforms and/or renewable energy integration
- Very good knowledge of renewable energy development
- Experience working in/for the WBG or other international financial institutions will be a plus
- Knowledge of WBG operational policies and procedures will be a plus
- Demonstrated working understanding of how energy/extractives thematic business lines and their financing fit together in a country development context
- Experience working with the Ministry of Energy Transition and Renewable Energies and/or electric utility in Algeria will be a plus
- Ability to efficiently manage multi-activities simultaneously, a flair for problem-solving and an ability to self-navigate through complex environments
- Excellent interpersonal skills and proven ability to build strong partnerships with clients, different stakeholders and colleagues across units and departmental boundaries in a multicultural environment with virtual teams located in different countries
- Good written and oral communication skills in English and French
- Good written and oral communication skills in Arabic (desirable)
- Ability to communicate complex issues in simple terms and to engage in evidence-based dialogue with clients
