The World Food Programme (WFP) is seeking to fill the position of Senior Programme Associate.

WFP works to ensure the most vulnerable populations, especially women and children, can access the nutritious food they need.

Responsibilities

  • Support the implementation and strengthening of WFP anticipatory actions and forecast-based financing (FBF) initiative
  • Provide overall guidance and day-to-day support to the country’s AA/FBF initiative, including project oversight, ensuring deliverables are met on time and on budget
  • Explore opportunities for how FBF can be further integrated into the institutional frameworks for drought or disaster risk management and identify potential synergies with current or future planned projects in the country, including links with potential national and international financing mechanisms, and risk finance layering within the national disaster risk financing framework
  • Contribute towards the implementation of the FBF project in the selected provinces in coordination with national government, provincial government, UN, and civil society organisations
  • Provide technical support to the government, especially INGD, INAM, MADER, SETSAN and MGCAS/INAS, in the creation of a drought-early-warning system linked with FBF
  • Support the development and implementation of the Africa Risk Capacity replica operational plan
  • Support country capacity assessments and capacity building requirements for
    WFP’s replica contingency plans in consultation with the government of Mozambique and partners

Requirements

  • Postgraduate or first university degree with experience and training in Insurance/Finance, Climate Change Adaptation, Environmental Studies, Agriculture and Food Security, Development Studies, or related field
  • Three years, minimum, of work experience for applicants with first degree and one year, minimum, of relevant experience for applicants with postgraduate degree
  • Sound knowledge of project cycle, programme and resource management, humanitarian principles and tools, programmes, and transfer modalities
  • Knowledge and experience of insurance/financial product design or management
  • Ability to explain projects and operations to counterparts and communicate with government and partners clearly and effectively, both orally and in writing
  • Ability to translate understanding of programme principles into relevant, effective, and context-specific approaches
  • Portuguese fluency
  • Understanding of English
