International Organisation for Migration (IOM) is seeking applications from eligible applicants for the post of Project Officer.

Established in 1951, IOM is a related organisation of the United Nations that works closely with governmental, intergovernmental and non-governmental partners in promoting humane and orderly migration for the benefit of all.

Responsibilities

  • In coordination with the project manager, coordinate the implementation of the integrated border management component by contributing to the oversight of the sufficient administrative and operational measures
  • Assist with the implementation and monitoring of the operational, financial and administrative aspects of the integrated border management component, including the implementation of capacity building initiatives on border management
  • Contribute to and monitor the proper utilisation of standard operating procedures, manuals, guidance notes, tools and methodologies in the implementation of project activities
  • Compile regular project updates and assist the chief of mission in liaison with donors,,
    government and other stakeholders (documentation, presentation, analysis etc.) in relation to the project
  • Undertake travel duties related to the project/programme assessment, monitoring or
    evaluation
  • Assist in liaising with the donor representatives and governmental counterparts in order to facilitate regular communication and smooth implementation of the project activities
  • Contribute to production of regular project narrative reports, briefings and background
    information requested by the government, donors and other entities
  • Assist with the production of financial reports in accordance with project reporting requirements in coordination with the project manager
  • Contribute to the development of new programmes and activities – in cooperation with United Nations (UN) organisations, civil society, media and public/private entities – in relation to both internal and international migration

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in Political or Social Sciences, Business Administration, International Relations, Law or a related field from an accredited academic institution with two years of relevant professional experience; or university degree in the above fields with four years of relevant professional experience
  • Experience of working and communicating with local authorities is an advantage
  • Experience in project development, public administration, implementation and evaluation, and/or programme management
  • Familiarity with financial management of projects
