The West Africa Civil Society Institute (WACSI) has opened applications for the 2022–2023 cohort of the Civic Space Protection Programme.
WACSI and Spaces for Change (S4C) in Nigeria, with support from Ford Foundation, created the Civic Space Resource Hub (CSR-Hub) project in Ghana, Nigeria, and Senegal to build the capacity of civil society organisations (CSOs).
Through the programme, the development partners aim to reposition the third sector to effectively respond to emerging and as well as longstanding challenges to civic space and democratic governance in West Africa, and to deliver on their mandates and development objectives effectively.

Eligibility
- Applicant must be operating in Nigeria, Ghana, or Senegal
- Applicant must be an organisation or network of organisations registered with a federal or state authority in their country of operation
- Applicant must have a stable leadership and have a demonstrable commitment to change
- Applicant must have been operating for the past 12 months, and has at least two staff or volunteers and a probability of success, following the CSR-Hub’s support
- Applicant must be working on one or more areas of civic space restrictions, such as freedom of expression, freedom of association, human rights, media freedom, regulation, etc
