The Department of State Services (DSS), in a recent post on social media, again warned against a breakdown of law and order in Nigeria.
Development Diaries reports that the DSS said that it will continue to take necessary measures to check ‘elements’ who do not wish the country well to ensure that a conducive environment is provided for citizens and residents to pursue their legitimate businesses.
Recall that this is not the first time the DSS has cautioned against people saying or doing things that could lead to a breakdown of law and order in the country.
Nigerians have however reacted to the latest statement, with many questioning the action of the security agency.
Responding to the DDS tweet, @PoloM77 said, ‘Where was this long post when MC Oluomo threatened Igbos in Lagos with violence? I have never seen FBI or MI5 make tweets like this…
‘You don’t need to inform anyone, if you’re not a biased organisation go after those who are planning violence, arrest them and show evidence!’
Where was this long post when MC Oluomo threatened Igbos in Lagos with violence?
I have never seen FBI or MI5 make tweets like this…

With regard to ‘fake news’, this tweep, @kejay_prince, called for more clarity from the DSS.
DSS y’all have to explain what is fake news, hate speeches and all that because as we speak, MC Oluomo has not been arrested, Bayo Onanuga has not been arrested.
Or y’all quest for tackling hate speeches and fake news is one sided?
Plus the only person threaten to use violent…— kejay prince (@kejay_prince) March 25, 2023
For her part, prominent activist Aisha Yesufu, tweeting from @AishaYesufu, described the DSS statement as shameful.
She tweeted, ‘What a shameful statement. You did not get the alert of the violence that was threatened and committed before, during and after the election.
‘Let one of the S in your DSS or SSS be shame. Be ashamed of your partisanship. Your loyalty should be to Nigeria and the Nigerian people’.
What a shameful statement.
You did not get the alert of the violence that were threatened and committed before, during and after the election.
Let one of the S in your DSS or SSS be shame.
Be ashamed of your partisanship.
Your loyally should be to Nigeria and the Nigerian people https://t.co/VUTVB4GmuQ— Aisha Yesufu (@AishaYesufu) March 25, 2023
Development Diaries has previously called on the DSS to interrogate Musiliu Akinsanya, better known as MC Oluomo, and a spokesperson for the presidential campaign of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Bayo Onanuga, over inciteful comments made during the March 28 governorship elections. There is no evidence that action has been taken by the security outfit.
What Nigerians are asking is: at what point would actions be taken against several persons who have unashamedly made inciteful comments on social media before and after the elections?
The DSS said it will not tolerate a situation where persons and/or groups take laws into their hands and champion anarchy, but several persons have been seen making various hate speeches and pushing various false narratives on social media. However, no action has been taken against them.
Development Diaries calls on the DSS to match its words with actions by interrogating every Nigerian using inflammatory messages to encourage violence.
