The Southern Africa Innovation Support Programme (SAIS2) has announced a call for proposals for the RE:innovation Challenge.
The challenge is aimed at piloting and validating solutions to make Southern African start-up ecosystems more resilient and better able to face an uncertain future.
SAIS2 is a regional initiative that supports the growth of new businesses through strengthening innovation ecosystems and promotion of cross-border collaboration between innovation role-players in Southern Africa.
SAIS2 is supported by the Ministry for Foreign Affairs (MFA) of Finland, in partnership with the ministries in charge of science, technology and innovation in Botswana, Namibia, South Africa, Tanzania and Zambia, and the Southern African Development Community (SADC).
Benefits
- Each selected project will receive a SAIS2 grant of between €30,000 and €50,000 per project depending on the project budget proposed
Eligibility
- The proposal must have identified a challenge and a solution that strengthens the resilience of a startup ecosystem in one of Botswana, Namibia, South Africa, Tanzania, or Zambia
- Entrant must have a project consortium comprising innovation support organisations such as incubators, hubs, labs, and accelerators, as well as research/academia, private sector and public entities, and/or NGOs hosting and supporting youth entrepreneurship and startups
- Project consortium must have at least one innovation support organisation as a member
- Applicant should provide at least 20 percent matching funding to counter the SAIS2 grant
- All applications must be submitted in English
