No regrets removing subsidy, tax reform’ll go ahead — Tinubu –  Punch

President Bola Tinubu has said there is no going back on the tax reforms bills.

Tinubu, who stated this during a media chat in Lagos on Monday, said the tax reforms were necessitated by the need to eliminate colonial-based assumptions in the nation’s tax environment.

The president must ensure that the proposed tax reforms prioritise equity, transparency, and the welfare of the citizens, particularly addressing the burden on low-income earners and small businesses.

We call on the Federal Ministry of Finance and the National Assembly to engage in inclusive dialogue with stakeholders to craft a tax system that fosters economic growth while alleviating poverty and inequality.

Borno State Governor, Prof Babagana Umara Zulum, has alerted the federal government that another rainy season is four months away, calling for urgent need to reconstruct the collapsed Alau Dam that caused devastating floods in Maiduguri and Jere cities.

We call on the Ministry of Water Resources and the Ecological Fund Office to expedite action, allocate necessary resources, and work closely with Borno State to safeguard the region before the next rainy season begins.

Lassa fever endemic in Nigeria, posing significant public health risk – Vanguard

The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention, NCDC, has raised alarm over the increasing rate of Lassa fever in the country. The nation’s disease control and prevention agency said Lassa fever has become endemic, causing significant public health risk across all states of the federation.

We urge the NCDC to intensify public health education campaigns to raise awareness about Lassa fever prevention, enhance early detection systems, and ensure the availability of diagnostic tools and treatment facilities across the country.

We also urge state governments to collaborate with the NCDC to deploy resources for community health education, increase access to diagnostic tools, and ensure timely medical intervention to mitigate this escalating public health crisis.
