Ex-servicemen shut finance ministry over unpaid entitlement – Daily Trust

Scores of retired military personnel on Thursday morning stormed the headquarters of the Federal Ministry of Finance and shut down the place over non-payment of their entitlements by the government.

We call on the Minister of Finance, Wale Edun, to urgently address the grievances of retired military personnel by ensuring the immediate payment of their outstanding entitlements.

Boko Haram: 10,000 people die in military custody – AMNESTY INT’L –Vanguard

Amnesty International said yesterday that no fewer than 10,000 people have died in military custody since the Boko Haram conflict in the North-east started. The human rights organisation also accused Boko Haram and the military of many abuses, saying military personnel violated rules of engagement while carrying out their assignments in the region.

We call on the Nigerian military to uphold its commitment to human rights and accountability by conducting transparent investigations into the allegations.

29 states spent 2tn on travel, others – Report – Punch

A total of 29 state governors spent N1.994tn on recurrent expenditures, including refreshments, sitting allowances, travelling, and utilities in the first nine months of 2024, findings by The PUNCH have shown.

It was also gathered that the states obtained a N533.29bn loan, while it spent N658.93bn to service its debts owed to local, foreign, and multilateral creditors.

This development highlights the urgent need for enhanced fiscal transparency and accountability in Nigeria’s governance. Citizens must demand clear justifications for these expenditures and advocate for a shift towards prioritising investments in infrastructure, education, and healthcare to ensure that public funds are utilised for sustainable development and the welfare of the people.
