Nigeria: NICOWA Donates PPE to Inmates in Katsina

The Nigeria Correctional Officers’ Wives Association (NICOWA) in Kastina State has donated personal protective equipment (PPE) to inmates of the Kastina Central Custodial Centre (KCCC) to help curb the spread of Covid-19.

The State Coordinator of NICOWA, Farida Lawal, who presented the items, which included face masks, hand sanitisers, water containers, and antiseptic soaps, said that the donation was part of NICOWA’s corporate social responsibility to complement the government’s efforts in combating the Covid-19 pandemic.

She said, ‘The donation is to support the state and federal governments‘ efforts to break the chain of transmission and flatten the curve of Covid-19 spread in the country. This gesture is also to [protect] the inmates and correctional officers against the deadly disease’.

She urged the government to focus more on the most vulnerable groups, particularly inmates, stressing the need for support from philanthropists and non-governmental organisations, given that the prison population has a weak health profile.

In her remarks, the wife of the Katsina State Governor, Dr Hadiza Bello Masari, who was represented by Hajiya Binta Alti, commended NICOWA’s efforts and encouraged other organisations to join in the fight against Covid-19.

The Deputy Controller of Corrections in charge of KCCC, Yunusa Lawal, who received the items said that they will go a long way in curbing the spread of Covid-19 and urge NICOWA not to relent in their support.
