Nigeria: GivingTuesday Names Omofomwan Leader

GivingTuesday, a global generosity movement that unleashes the power of people and organisations to transform their communities, has named Charles Omofomwan National Leader for the movement in Nigeria.

Omofomwan, who is currently the Executive Director of Noble Missions for Change Initiative, is a professional project manager for development with over ten years of experience. He now has the mandate to facilitate people and organisations in their efforts to transform communities in Nigeria through generosity.

The first GivingTuesday campaign in Nigeria, #GivingTuesdayNow, will focus on using technology to connect individuals who need help to individuals and organisations willing to provide help during the Covid-19 pandemic. The campaign is set to kick-off 05 May, 2020.

Setting the agenda for GivingTuesday in Nigeria, the new National Leader said that there are many players in the development sector in the country, both local and international organisations, partnering with the government to provide solutions to problems plaguing Nigeria. He said that GivingTuesday will help create awareness about such organisations, to help mobilise the resources that will aid their activities.

Omofomwan said that the movement will encourage and promote individuals and businesses to make donations to various causes, and will also speak out to amplify social issues. He said that GivingTuesday will not reject any type of organisation as long as they are legitimately solving social issues in the country.

GivingTuesday is a movement that currently exists in over 60 countries with its headquarters in the United States of America.
