Liberia: UNDP, EPA Conduct Climate Change Training

The Environmental Protection Agency of Liberia (EPA), in collaboration with the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), have organised a technical training on climate change impact in Ganta, Nimba County, Liberia.

Development Diaries learnt that the training was organised in line with Liberia’s National Adaptation Plans (NAP) project.

The NAP project is designed to address climate change issues in the West African country.

The NAP Project Manager, Abraham Tumbey, said that it was important to equip Liberian government officials with requisite skills on climate change impact, vulnerability assessment, and economic appraisal so that they can prioritise and mainstream climate change adaptation in decision making and national planning.

Speaking on behalf of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), Professor Benjamin Karmorh commended said, ‘We are almost 80 percent in terms of the project implementation.

‘And this activity is important because it will help to wrap up the project…as you know Liberia is vulnerable to the impacts of climate change. All sectors are being impacted’.

Government officials from the Ministries of Finance, Agriculture, and Gender, and National Disaster Management Agency, National Port Authority, and Liberia Maritime Authority (LMA) attended the training.
