Justice for Salome: NYSC Member’s Gruesome Murder Demands Action against Violence

Timileyin Ajayi

The recent tragic killing of a young woman by self-proclaimed gospel artist Timileyin Ajayi in Nasarawa State, north-central Nigeria, is both shocking and deeply heartbreaking.

Development Diaries reports that Ajayi was arrested after being found with the severed head of 24-year-old Salome Enejo, whom he claimed was his girlfriend.

It is understood that Salomey was a serving member of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) based in Mararaba, near the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

This development has elicited a lot of reactions on social media, with Nigerians expressing shock at the incident and giving their various opinions on how this matter should be handled.

No circumstance justifies taking someone’s life, and this horrific act reveals a disturbing level of violence within Nigerian society.

It goes to undermine the value of human life and create an atmosphere of fear and insecurity.

Under Nigerian law, every life is protected, and such acts are unacceptable.

As enshrined in Section 33 of the 1999 Constitution, every person has a right to life, and no one shall be deprived intentionally of his life, save in execution of the sentence of a court.

Although the Nasarawa State Police Command has arrested Ajayi, and disclosed that a thorough investigation has commenced, it has to go beyond announcing it to the public.

Aside from ensuring a thorough police investigation and prosecution of Ajayi, Development Diaries calls on the police in Nasarawa State to share the investigation’s findings with the public.

For their part, the judicial system must handle this case with urgency and integrity. Let this serve as a precedent that violence, no matter the circumstance, will not be tolerated in Nigeria.

The NYSC, in collaboration with security agencies, should review and implement measures to better protect corps members, particularly in volatile regions, ensuring their safety while serving the nation.
