WaterAid Ethiopia says it has launched the second phase of the Urban WASH System Strengthening Project.
The aim of the project, according Development Diaries gathered, is to strengthen urban WASH systems in 23 cluster lead towns with 1.25 million euros.
The project, to be implemented in five years, will be partially funded by a UK-based water company, Yorkshire Water, according to a statement issued by WaterAid Ethiopia.
It was learnt that this development initiative is continuation of WaterAid’s 20 Towns Capacity Development Project implemented in four regions between 2014 and 2019.
‘WaterAid Ethiopia is committed to contribute its part to develop the capacity of utilities so that they get modernised and able to manage the water, sanitation and hygiene services to residents they serve’, WaterAid Ethiopia Country Director, Yaekob Metana, said.
He said that WaterAid would continue to collaborate with the government and work with partners to solicit funds to meet the objectives of the project.
According to the statement, this phase, which covers Oromia, Amhara and Tigray, takes a Region-Wide Cluster Approach.
Senior officials from the country’s water and irrigation ministry, health ministry, NGOs, academics, regional bureau representatives, as well as WaterAid UK, East Africa Region attended the launching of the second phase.
