The United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS) is seeking to fill the position of East African Community (EAC) Regional Malaria Coordinator.
The mission of UNOPS is to serve people in need by expanding the ability of the United Nations, governments and other partners to manage projects, infrastructure, and procurement in a sustainable and efficient manner.
Responsibilities
- Coordinate a comprehensive desk review of social and environmental determinants of malaria at four levels: society, environment, population group, and household and individual
- Based on task, propose which sectors should be involved in the delivery of national malaria control interventions
- Facilitate the country and regional validation of the Great Lakes malaria initiative strategic plan
- Coordinate the development of concept note
- Coordinate the development of a concept note and funding proposal for the EAC Malaria Multisectoral Action Programme (EMMAP)
Requirements
- University degree (master’s degree or equivalent) in Public Health, Health Sciences, Business Administration, Economics, Development Studies, or a related field
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field with two years of experience may be considered in lieu of advanced degree
- Seven years, minimum, of experience in planning, managing and implementing programmes at national and/or international levels, including field experience with demonstrated achievements in Africa
- Extensive knowledge of monitoring and evaluation of health programmes
- Experience in multisectoral collaboration at country level and/or regional level
- Experience in developing or supporting technical cooperation and/or partnership development (preferred)
- Expertise in resource mobilisation (preferred)
- Knowledge of development issues and the application of research findings to meet the requirement of developing countries
- Relevant experience working in East Africa is a plus
- Experience or sound understanding of international development and the political agendas as related to malaria
- Knowledge of French or other UN languages (desirable)
- Fluency in oral and written English
