Terre des hommes is seeking applications from eligible applicants for the role of Country Representative.

Terre des hommes is the leading Swiss organisation for children’s aid. Through the organisation’s health, protection and emergency relief programmes, they provide assistance to over four million children and their families in around 40 countries each year.

  • Provide leadership and supervisory management of staff, programming and operations, including programme quality and accountability, stewardship of resources, staff safety and security, performance management and external representation
  • Directly responsible for the overall coordination and strategic direction of operations
  • Develop the strategic plan of the delegation, including the continuity of the current emergency response while exploring the possibility of developing ‘midterm/long-term needs programmes’
  • Manage responsive and effective operations implemented both directly and with Nigerian partner organisations
  • Manage the country delegation pursuing the objectives identified in the country strategy, bringing them together to deliver high-quality, cost-effective programming results with high levels of accountability
  • Provide oversight for directly supervised senior executive/technical officers, leading country management team to identify, design and deliver responsive, high-quality programmes
  • Ensure efficient management of public grants and private funds for results, compliance, and focused, timely reporting
  • Set up and lead a country management team to identify, design and deliver responsive, high-quality programmes, as well as ensure efficient management of funds

Requirements

  • Familiarity with UN, U.S. and European donors and their rules, requirements and guidelines
  • Experience of working with local stakeholders – demonstrated ability to collaborate with peer agencies, local government and community leaders to work effectively towards a common and agreed-upon results
  • Experience of working with humanitarian (conflict environment) and development contexts
  • Demonstrable experience in capacity-building of partners (civil society, public and/or private sectors)
  • Africa experience (desirable)
