Wike, Fubara Suspend Obligations to Continue Face-Off

Fubara

While Nigerians expect Governor Siminalayi Fubara and Nyesom Wike to focus on delivering the mandate of their respective offices, both men have, unfortunately, deemed it fit to continue their battle for political superiority in Rivers State.

Development Diaries reports that the defection of 27 members of the Rivers State House of Assembly from the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC) is suspected to be connected to the rift between the former governor and his successor.

The latest event is a distraction to both Wike, who is currently Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), and Fubara, as citizens in the FCT and Rivers still await the fulfillment of their developmental promises.

Development Diaries would like to remind Wike that the FCT is currently grappling with the challenges of insecurity, poor transportation and the poor state of infrastructural development.

He should recall that he promised to sanitise and secure the FCT as its minister and even added that ‘you cannot claim that the FCT is not working when you have not done your part’.

Also, while Governor Fubara continues to assure the citizens of Rivers State that his administration is mindful of fulfilling all the promises that he made during the electioneering campaigns, it appears citizens need to wait even longer to see results after over six months in office.

The governor should recall that he promised to ‘prioritise the welfare of citizens through responsive, caring, and inclusive governance’.

Fubara also promised to ‘keep the government right-sized, block resource leakages, and ensure value for money spent on the delivery of projects and services’.

It would be great to see both men trend on social media because they are fulfilling the demands of their roles as governor and minister, not over what is irrelevant to the well-being of citizens in Rivers and the FCT.

Development Diaries, therefore, calls on Governor Fubara and the FCT Minister, Wike, to focus on delivering promises and mandates of their offices to bring much-needed development to citizens.
