As the number of rape cases keep rising, former Chief Judge of Katsina State, Justice Sadiq Mahuta, has berated the state assembly for its delay towards domesticating the Child Rights Act in the state.
Speaking at a meeting of stakeholders on rape and other sexual assaults, Mahuta wondered why the bill before the Katsina State lawmakers was not being given the necessary attention it required.
Development Diaries gathered that Mahuta said a committee that he chaired had worked on the bill for over six months after which it was sent to the state assembly as an executive bill.
The bill, when passed, will become a law to take care of all violations against children, protecting them from all social vices.
The wife of the state governor, Hadiza Masari, in her remarks, said she was alarmed at the increasing rate of rape cases in the state, calling on all stakeholders to work towards finding a sustainable solution to this challenge.
