Liberia: CAF Donates to Special Education Schools

The Cummings Africa Foundation (CAF) has donated bags of rice, gallons of cooking oil and cartons of soap to the Liberian School for the Blind and the School for the Deaf and Dumb, located in Virginia Township, Liberia. The donation is a part of CAF’s efforts to help reduce the pressure on the Government of Liberia for the provision of basic necessities to vulnerable groups and citizens in the Covid-19 pandemic.

According to the Executive Director of the CAF, Dr. Wede Elliot Brownell, the donation was made possible by the chief financier of the foundation, Mr. Alexander Benedict Cummings. She said that the gesture was CAF’s  way of identifying with vulnerable citizens in a critical moment. Brownell added that the CAF’s focus for the year 2020 was education but a shift in emphasis became necessary due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

The Dean of the Liberian School for the Blind, Kelvin Beahquoi, thanked CAF for the donation. He said, ‘We want to firstly extend our appreciation to the Cummings Africa Foundation for coming in at this time. We have been worrying about how we were to manage during this lockdown. This organisation is the first to come to our aid. This donation shows that Mr. Cummings has a heart for disabled persons in Liberia’. The Dean urged other philanthropic and non-governmental organisations to emulate the good example of CAF.
