The Ghana Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) Platform on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), in conjunction with CSO Covid-19 Response Fund, has donated food items and drinks to some vulnerable groups in Kumasi.
The beneficiary groups were Dakodwom Aged Group (DAG), Bokro Aged Group (BAG), Church of Christ Widows Group (CCWG) at Ahinsan, some mental homes in Kumasi, selected persons with disabilities and HIV, street children, and orphans.
The Lead Coordinator of the distribution of the items in the Ashanti region, Kwaku Asante, noted that the CSO Covid-19 Response Fund was intended to coordinate the actions of all CSOs in response to the fight against Covid-19. He added that the members of the platform which are the Ghana Anti-Corruption Coalition (GACC), West Africa Civil Society Institute (WACSI), STAR-Ghana Foundation (STARGF), SEND Ghana, and Ghana Agricultural Workers Union (GAWU), were committed to creating opportunities for all. However, the gesture was to leverage the strength of their numbers to impact positively and address some of the inequalities that might occur in the fight against the virus.
Child activist, Madam Aba Oppong, received the items on behalf of the beneficiaries. She thanked the group for the gesture and assured them that the items would help the beneficiaries. She also called on other organisations to emulate the gesture.
The items donated were bags of rice, gallons of cooking oil, boxes of soap, sachets of drinking water, and vitamin supplements.
