Ghana: FAWE Chairperson Joins Presidential Race

Former President of Ghana, John Mahama, has chosen Chairperson of the Forum for African Women Educationalist (FAWE) Africa Board, Prof. Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, as his running mate for this year’s presidential election.

Opoku-Agyemang, a former education minister in the West African country, is a fellow of the Ghana Academy of Arts and Sciences; University Teachers Association of Ghana; English Studies Association; African Studies Association, United States of America; African Literature Association, United States of America; International Fulbright Scholars Association; Commonwealth of Learning among others.

‘The Forum for African Women Educationalists congratulates Prof. Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, Chairperson FAWE Africa Board, for her appointment as the official running mate for Hon. John Dramani Mahama, flagbearer, National Democratic Congress of Ghana’, FAWE said in a statement.

‘We attest to Prof. Agyemang’s stellar leadership in contributing to the empowerment of women and girls in Africa including spearheading the fundraising of millions of dollars to support their access, retention, and completion in education and training opportunities. Her record of accomplishment has earned her four honorary doctoral degrees, national and international accolades. We believe that her conscientiousness, charisma, mastery of a trade, and genuine love for Africa will go a long way in the people of Ghana’, the organisation added.

The former representative of Ghana to the Executive Board of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO), has served on many local and international boards and committees including the Centre for Democratic Governance, (CDD-Ghana), the Editorial Board of The Harriet Tubman Series on the African Diaspora (Africa World Press Inc. USA), the Africa Initiative in Canada, and the College of Physicians and Surgeons as Eminent Citizen.
