The government of Egypt and the United Nations (UN) have signed the United Nations Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework (UNSDCF).
Development Diaries reports that the signing was done by Egypt’s Minister of International Cooperation, Rania Al-Mashat, and the UN Resident Coordinator in Egypt, Elena Panova, on behalf of both parties.
It is understood that the aim of the framework is to support and reaffirm the commitment between Egypt and the UN towards their shared vision.
The UN, in a statement, noted that the UNSDCF is an instrument that provides guidance and a strategic direction to achieve sustainable development.
‘Focusing on five primary development pillars which are people, planet, prosperity, governance in addition to women and girls, the UNSDCF has adapted these pillars into all aspects of the partnership as development would not be achieved without recognizing their importance and value’, the statement read.
The UNSDCF promotes accountability and aims to increase transparency regarding the development efforts taking place in Egypt.
With regard to the 2022 Sustainable Development Report (SDR2022), Egypt ranked seventh out of 20 Arab countries, fourth out of 47 African countries, seventh in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA), and 87th globally.
