Living without an arm can be very difficult and challenging, but living without both arms is nothing short of inspiring, which is the case for David Anyaele, who lost both arms after they were gruesomely chopped off by the RUF rebels in Sierra Leone that went further to set him on fire, leaving him with a third-degree burn.
Now the Director at the Centre for Citizens with Disabilities, Anyaele has been selected to participate in a virtual Gold Star Programme in honour of the 30th anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act, being the only candidate solely chosen from Africa for his exemplary leadership skills, experience, and impact on the lives of people living with disabilities.
The Gold Star Programme is intended to reconnect USA interlocutors with the alumni of U.S. exchange programmes who have distinguished themselves back home.
With the US Mission in Nigeria announcing his participation in the programme, Anyaele took to his Facebook page to share the wonderful news with family, friends and well-wishers who couldn’t hold back their excitements for the news as Prince Ade-Johnson commented, ‘Congratulations friend. I am so proud of you. You have done so marvellously well. You are a great inspiration and motivation to both the abled and the disabled’.
