The World Food Programme (WFP) is seeking applications from eligible applicants for the post of Programme Policy Officer.
WFP works to ensure the most vulnerable populations, especially women and children, can access the nutritious food they need.
Responsibilities
- Provide technical support to the area and field offices in the development and implementation of various activities under Productive Safety Net (PSN)
- Analyse operational and community issues to support senior colleagues in the development of policies and programmes
- Contribute to the review of Field Level Agreement (FLA) document and budget process and collaborate with relative units as well as support staff in the interpretation of FLAs
- Liaise with internal counterparts to ensure effective collaboration, monitoring and evaluation of ongoing projects and support the area offices with gathering and reviewing of cooperating partners’ monthly and quarterly reports in the provided formats, ensuring data consistency
- Prepare regular updates on food and cash transfer status for projects, as required, and within the specific area of responsibility and also prepare a range of reports and data analysis
- Support with organising events such as training, etc., under the PSN programme and assist with stakeholder’s collaboration
- Act as a point of contact for resolution of a range of operational queries and problems within specific technical area of responsibility
Requirements
- Advanced university degree in International Affairs, Economics, Nutrition/Health, Agriculture, Environmental Science, Social Sciences, or a related field, or first university degree with seven years of related work experience and/or training/courses
- Five years, minimum, of experience working on climate change projects related to environment and/or development issues, such as natural resource management and biodiversity, either in an NGO or the public or private sector
- Fluency in written and spoken English and Arabic
- Experience in climate change adaptation methodology or practices, e.g., managing risk and uncertainty, supporting organisational change, developing community-based adaptation, or integrating climate change issues into the design, monitoring and evaluation of conservation and/or development projects and programmes (desirable)
- Ability to understand complex scientific issues and to communicate and apply them at project and programme level (desirable)
- Ability to demonstrate understanding of the linkages between ecosystems, biodiversity, human well-being and climate change (desirable)
- Ability to understand the various aspects of climate change adaptation, particularly frameworks, strategies and tools for implementation (desirable)
- Experience in project and programme management with proven skills in design, management, monitoring and evaluation and reporting (desirable)
