The World Food Programme (WFP) has opened applications for the position of Advocacy Officer.

The WFP is the United Nations’ frontline agency saving lives in emergencies and changing lives for millions through sustainable development.

Responsibilities

  • Support the CO in producing or outsourcing the production of compelling content including, text, photos, graphics, videos and audio for use across a range of integrated online platforms and media, to support advocacy, brand building, as well as illustrate and demonstrate impact of WFP’s work for fund-raising activities
  • Edit content for publication on WFP digital platforms
  • Understand WFP’s strategic objectives and the link to own work objectives
  • Recognise and share with team members the ways in which individual contributions relate to WFP’s mission
  • Set own goals to align with WFP’s overall operations
  • Assess own strengths and weaknesses to increase self-awareness, and include them in conversations on own developmental needs
  • Participate in open dialogue and value the opinions of others, regardless of background, culture, experience, or country assignment
  • Proactively seek feedback and coaching to build confidence, and develop and improve individual skills
  • Participate in accomplishing team activities and goals in the face of challenging circumstances
  • Show willingness to explore and experiment with new ideas and approaches in own work
  • Consistently deliver results within individual scope of work on time, on budget and without errors
  • Commit to upholding individual accountabilities and responsibilities in the face of ever-changing country or functional priorities
  • Make rational decisions about individual activities when faced with uncertain circumstances including in times of ambiguity regarding information or manager direction
  • Seek to understand and adapt to internal or cross-unit teams’ priorities and preferred working styles
  • Demonstrate ability to understand and appropriately respond to and/or escalate needs of external partners

  • Provide operational support on analyses and assessments that quantifies and demonstrates WFP’s unique value as a partner

Requirements

  • Advanced university degree in Political Science, Marketing, Communications, Public Relations or a relevant area; or first university degree with relevant courses and additional years of experience
  • Five years, minimum, of professional work experience in international development or humanitarian work
  • Experience in strategic communications techniques
  • Experience in digital/social media account management
  • Experience in coordination roles and supervising others
  • Fluency (level C) in English
