United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) is seeking to fill the position of a Partnerships Specialist. The UNDP works in nearly 170 countries and territories, helping to achieve the eradication of poverty, and the reduction of inequalities and exclusion.

Responsibilities

  • Develop policy analyses and updates to support strategic partnerships
  • Actively explore external environment and promote strategic direction vis-à-vis a defined portfolio of strategically relevant and important external partners
  • Develop, use and monitor effectiveness of evidence-based communication products/mechanisms for outreach and raising awareness externally and internally on the importance and relevance of new strategic partnerships, in collaboration with communications colleagues
  • Support the use of a wide range of fora and events to develop relationships with potential partners, including broad networking
  • Proactively facilitate close collaborations with respect to donor policies, strategies and priorities
  • Identify ways in which existing partnerships can be expanded to new thematic areas or countries
  • Support partnership portfolio management and partner relationships
  • Facilitate working-level engagement and liaison with partners to ensure that their commitment and support to collaboration is maintained
  • Proactively scan for and identify new prospective partners and partnership opportunities and advise on relevant partnership agreements, with parameters and timelines, while providing intelligence and development analysis to broker and facilitate new partnerships
  • Maintain contact with partners to discuss needs
  • Plan and facilitate strategic engagement initiatives with partners, with special focus on frontier issues, in close consultation with partnerships colleagues
  • Maintain partner profiles, gather intelligence from/to be shared with relevant units
  • Coordinate responses to requests for information and reply to partner queries including preparing correspondence for high-level external counterparts
  • Identify, participate in, and report on events and fora that advance relationships
  • Periodically review and analyse partnerships progress and provide inputs to evolving objectives and mechanisms of the engagement strategy; identify risks and opportunities and share with relevant units

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in Economics, Political Science, Social Sciences or International Development (first-level university degree in combination with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of an advanced university degree)
  • Five years of relevant experience, minimum, in development work at the international level, in a partnerships development or organisation liaison role, working with programme country governments, especially MICs and international organisations or development agencies
  • Experience performing political and development analysis
  • Experience in design and implementation of partnership initiatives and events
  • UN/UNDP experience at headquarters, regional or country level (desirable)
  • Proficiency in English
  • Working knowledge of other UN language (desirable)
