The police in Ogun State, southwest Nigeria, have said that they will use minimum force to arrest controversial singer, Habeeb Okikiola, popularly known as Portable.

Development Diaries reports that the Zazu crooner, on Tuesday, shared a live video of himself resisting police arrest in his wine bar.

The singer could be seen accusing the police of illegal arrest despite being told there was a petition against him.

He said, ‘Show me your arrest warrant. Why did you come to my office to arrest people? You came and everyone was running. A yahoo boy sent police to arrest me just because I advised him to stop doing yahoo and vent into music.

The police have since issued a 72-hour ultimatum to Portable to report himself to the nearest police station or get forcefully arrested.

According to the police spokesperson, Abimbola Oyeyemi, the police moved to arrest Portable after five invites were sent to him and another through his father, but he turned them all down.

It is further understood that the singer was invited for questioning after a young studio owner petitioned the police over claims that Portable and his team beat him to a stupor and locked his studio.

Section 31 of the Police Act 2020 provides conditions for investigation of an allegation by
the police.

It can be said that the police acted in accordance with the provision of this section by informing the singer why he was needed for questioning.

To this end, Portable resisting arrest after being invited for questioning, according to the police, has infringed the law.

Development Diaries calls on the singer to respect the rule of law and submit himself to the police for questioning.

We also urge the police to carry out necessary action within the provisions of the Police Act 2020 in addressing the matter, ensuring that Portable’s human rights are not violated.
