The Adamawa State House of Assembly has applauded the International Republic Institute (IRI) for its efforts and positive contributions to the state’s legislative activities and has appealed for an extension of the institute’s programme to help cover the tenure of the seventh assembly.
Development Diaries learnt that lawmakers had participated in training, retreat orientation in Lagos, and town hall meetings put together by the IRI.
The Deputy Majority Leader and member representing Gombi constituency, Japhet Kefas, said during a plenary that the IRI’s mutual understanding with the state assembly had positioned the assembly ahead of other state assemblies in the northeast.
Kefas, who acknowledged the funding of the programme by USAID, European Union, and other stakeholders, said that the state assembly had benefited in no small measure from the Institute.
He urged the assembly to appeal to the Institute and its funding partners to extend the duration of the programme to ensure that what has been learnt is institutionalised and passed on to the next assembly.
The members representing Yola South, Demsa, Guyuk, Hong, Shelleng Song, Numan, and Fufore Gurin constituencies also commended the institute for its efforts and collectively stressed that the institute’s work has made the assembly vibrant, active, and people-oriented.
Before proceeding on a two-month recess, the house moved for the adoption of all requests, directing its clerk to communicate the appeal to the appropriate authorities concerning the programme’s extension amongst other motions moved by the lawmakers.
