Diamond Development Initiative (DDI) is facilitating the provision of competitive skills for 15,000 youths in Lagos State to enable them contribute to Nigeria’s development while achieving their dreams.

Development Diaries learnt that the Executive Director of the Initiative, Adamu Garba, in a press release, noted that the project, tagged ‘USADF-LSETF Employability Programme’, was a collaboration between the United States African Development Foundation (USADF) and the Lagos State Employment Trust Fund (LSETF).

The project aims to provide industry and trade-relevant skills to youths across the state over the next five years, enabling them to take advantage of entrepreneurship and employment opportunities.

Meanwhile, the initiative is facilitating the engagement of training centres to provide 210 youths with highly-sorted skills in the state.

‘Though the programme was not designed for a pandemic era, we are fully complying with physical distancing guidelines, hence piloting digital classrooms for the first cohort of the exercise, to ensure that target beneficiaries are not denied of the intended project gains’, Garba added.

Thirty-three trainers are being supported to provide relevant and in-demand technological skills such as virtualisation, cyber security, software engineering, 2D/3D design, cloud computing, and interior design.

DDI is a not-for-profit organisation that complements the roles of development agencies, donors and other funding organisations by providing technical assistance in design, planning, and implementation of development initiatives especially related to the development of young people.
