Applications for the Commonwealth Foundation Short Story Prize 2021 are now open.
The Commonwealth Short Story Prize started in 2012 with the launch of Commonwealth Writers.
It seeks out talented writers and brings stories from new and emerging voices to an international audience.
Stories often come from countries with little or no publishing infrastructure and from places that are marked by geographical, geopolitical or economic isolation.
Benefits
- The overall winner will receive £5,000
- Regional winners each will receive £2,500
- Opportunity to be published online by Granta Magazine
Eligibility
- Entrants must be citizens of a Commonwealth country
- Entrants must be aged 18 or over on 01 November, 2020
- Entries from previous overall winners of the Commonwealth Short Story Prize are not eligible
- Entries from previous regional winners are eligible
- Entries from current members of staff at the Commonwealth Foundation are not eligible
- Entries must be unpublished and remain unpublished in any language until 01 May, 2021
- Only one entry per writer may be submitted for the Commonwealth Short Story Prize
- Entries should be submitted in English, with the following exceptions: entries from Commonwealth citizens who write in Bengali, Chinese, French, Greek, Kiswahili, Malay, Portuguese, Samoan, Tamil and Turkish and who do not have an English translation of their story, may submit their stories in the original language
