The World Food Programme (WFP) is seeking applications from eligible applicants for the post of External Relations Officer.

WFP works to ensure the most vulnerable populations, especially women and children, can access the nutritious food they need.

Responsibilities

  • Contribute to the development of systems and tools that support effective OIM, performance reporting (OIM and PR) and related normative guidance as required
  • Support initiatives for developing improved, streamlined and harmonised OIM and PR
  • Support the corporate emergency and Covid-19 response through operational reporting and information management, reporting to internal and external audiences
  • Oversee the preparation of key corporate reports (country brief and executive brief)
  • Provide support for operational task forces and update the emergency dashboards in coordination with the regional bureau and headquarters
  • Support the country office by overseeing the briefing preparation for operational task forces (OTFs), ensuring accurate reporting and dissemination of decision-making to concerned offices
  • Prepare topic briefs ahead of high-level meetings and provide updates to senior management on a regular basis
  • Collaborate with counterparts in different units, supporting performance of activities, in particular with monitoring and evaluation
  • Oversee and approve the collation, drafting and dissemination of political and humanitarian analysis pertaining to WFP current or future responses and donor policies, trends and preferences to ensure country-specific input to WFP’s operational reporting
  • Collaborate with counterparts in other UN agencies to ensure consistency in humanitarian information and to complement WFP analysis and information
  • Provide coaching and guidance, as required, to ensure appropriate development of OIM and PR and enable high performance

Requirements

  • Advanced university degree in English, Political Science, Economics, Statistics, Information Management, Project Management, Social Sciences or a related field; or first degree with additional years of related work experience and/or training/courses
  • Three years, minimum, of postgraduate professional experience in a relevant field of work, with a background and interest in international relations, humanitarian and development programmes and/or journalism
  • Fluency (level C) in English and Portuguese languages
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to analyse and interpret information and draw out the key messages
  • Strong oral and written communication skills, and ability to clearly articulate insights to stakeholders in WFP
  • Ability to lead, motivate and develop small teams of junior staff
  • Knowledge of common business principles and processes and the ability to quickly assimilate UN/WFP-specific processes and systems
