The United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS) is seeking to fill the position of a Programme Management Analyst (Economist). UNOPS is a service provider of the United Nations (UN), dedicated to implementing projects for the UN and to being a technical advisor to UN partners.

UNOPS manages a growing portfolio of ‘operational’ projects in Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania and several island states, and is currently responsible for the Kampala Jinja Expressway ‘No-One Worse Off’ (KJE-NOWO) initiative, a slum upgrading feasibility study of Kasokoso and Kinawataka informal settlements and the Nakawa Market Accessibility study, all in Uganda.

Responsibilities

The  Programme Management Analyst (Economist) in collaboration with the team members and the project stakeholders will perform the following tasks:

  • Assist in collection and analysis of financial and socio-economic data for the projects
  • Advise and make recommendations on long-term, affordable and accessible financing for upgrading the informal settlements of Kinawataka and Kasokoso
  • Work with utility (electricity, water and sewerage) providers to develop feasible financial models for long-term development options and extension of the services for Kinawataka and Kasokoso informal settlements
  • Work with utility providers to develop affordable and accessible financial models for the long-term development and management of the Nakawa Market

Requirements

  • A bachelor’s degree in Economics, Commerce, Finance, Urban/Municipal Planning, Governance or relevant field from a recognised university or equivalent (essential)
  • A master’s degree in a relevant field (desirable)
  • Two years of experience, minimum, in developing financial models for community projects in an urban setting (essential)
  • Full knowledge of English language (essential)
    Knowledge of another official UN language, apart from English (desirable)
