The Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) and the Shell Petroleum Development Company of Nigeria Limited (SPDC) have announced the tenth annual scheme of the NNPC/SPDC Joint Venture Niger Delta Postgraduate Scholarship. The objective of the scheme is to provide postgraduate study opportunities for qualifying students from four Niger Delta states of Nigeria, Bayelsa, Delta, Imo and Rivers, in the UK in courses that are relevant to the oil and gas industry.

Benefits

• The scholarship will cover tuition, one economy return-flight ticket from Nigeria to the UK and a contribution towards living expenses (living expenses are based on the Association of Commonwealth Universities published living rates and are limited to that only)
• The scholarship will cover medical insurance, in line with UK Student Visa requirements

Eligibility

To qualify for the scholarship:

• Applicants must display intellectual ability and leadership potential
• Applicants must have an adequate standard of English (at least 6.5 in IELTS) and meet the UK university’s language requirement
• Applicants must have been offered admission to study on one of the scheme’s eligible courses at the UK university, having applied through the normal application process
• Already hold (or expect to hold by the time of taking up the scholarship) a degree of an equivalent standard to a UK Upper Second Class Honours degree
• Must have completed their national youth service by September, 2020
• Be aged between 21–28 years by 30 September, 2020
• Be ordinarily indigenes of Bayelsa, Delta, Imo or Rivers State of Nigeria, who intend to return to Nigeria at the end of the period of study
• Currently reside in Nigeria
• Have a Nigerian international passport valid till December 2020
• Have not already had the chance of studying in Europe, North America, Asia or Australasia
• Employees, employees’ relatives (or former employees who have left employment less than five years before) of SPDC, Royal Dutch Shell Group of Companies or the UK university will not be eligible to apply for the scholarships
