The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO) hosts Viva Technology (Vivatech), an international gathering of the world’s brightest minds, talents and products in a celebration of today’s innovations and tomorrow’s possibilities. Vivatech has been a platform for more than 13,000 startup.
To commemorate its fifth anniversary, Vivatech will contribute to helping UNESCO solve three big challenges:
- Reduce the risk of natural disasters induced by climate change
- Fight disinformation as a threat to democracy
- Protect and share the world’s cultural heritage through digitalisation

The three winners of the challenge (one per challenge) will receive:
- Five free startup passes for the three days of Vivatech
- A startup booth at Vivatech 2021
- Mentoring from senior executives of Vivatech partners
- A private meeting with the high-level jury
- A feature at the UNESCO annual conference
- Features on the UNESCO website and in its official communications
- Features by Vivatech media partners
Eligibility
- The founder must be under 35 years
- The solution/product must be functional (real code and design implementations, not mockups)
- The solution/product presented must be relevant, original and innovative compared to existing alternatives
- The solution/product presented must be FOSS/Open Source, in line with the commitment of UNESCO to harnessing new technologies to improve people’s lives and tackle sustainable development challenges
