Zimbabwe: FAWEZI Supports Vulnerable Citizens

Forum for African Women Educationalists Zimbabwe Chapter (FAWEZI) has donated television sets, DVD players, first aid, and menstrual hygiene to five schools in Shamva District through its Empowered Adolescent Girls for Improved Quality of Life project.

The Information and Communications Officer at FAWEZI, Nqobile Nkiwane, acknowledged the economic challenges being faced by many households during the ongoing lockdown.

Development Diaries learnt that FAWEZI also donated stationary, small mattresses, disinfectants, tip-tanks, 5,000 water tanks, bins and sanitary pads, and food hampers.

It was gathered that the food hampers were meant to help parents and guardians.

The Provincial Education Director, Mrs Naomi Chikosha, received the items and thanked FAWEZI for responding to the educational needs in Shamva District.

‘We are currently capturing online information on schools preparedness towards reopening. This equipment fills a huge gap that we have in preparing for reopening’, she said, urging the schools to ensure that television programmes are strictly educational.

The Empowered Adolescent Girls for Improved Quality of Life is one of the projects being run by FAWEZI and its partners, Action Aid Zimbabwe, Leonard Cheshire Disability Zimbabwe, and Aids Counselling Trust in Chitungwiza and Shamva Districts.
