Zambia: UNICEF Facilitates Water Project

The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) and the government of Zambia have provided the people of Kalumbila District with boreholes.

Development Diaries reports that the United Nations agency made this known on its official Twitter handle for Zambia.

According to UNICEF, the project in Kalumbila, a district in Zambia’s North-Western Province, was funded by KfW Development Bank.

UNICEF noted that the drilling of the boreholes will bring hope, water and a better life to the families and children of Kalumbila because water is a basic right to life and no one should live without it.

Data from UNICEF shows that lack of access to adequate water supply, sanitation and washing facilities in Zambian schools severely impacts students and contributes to high dropout rates, especially among girls.

Also, data from World Bank shows that as of 2020, only two-thirds of Zambians had access to basic water services, and about half had access to basic or limited sanitation.
