Building Resources Across Communities (BRAC) says 20 girls in Temeke Municipality, Tanzania, have completed its one-year ICT course.
The ‘Skills for their Future’ project, Development Diaries understands, was designed to teach the girls skills for the fourth industrial revolution.
The Theirworld-funded project is expected to help the girls from Temeke Secondary School make informed decisions.
‘At BRAC we implement various development projects aimed at empowering girls and women socially and economically’, Programmes Manager at BRAC Maendeleo, Veronica Kamwela, said.
‘We are really pleased that through this project we were able to accomplish our goal of equipping some 20 selected girls with skills and knowledge.
‘We are even more encouraged because the teachers also had the opportunity to learn some basic ICT skills’.
Headmistress of the school, Ingia Mtenga, appreciated BRAC for choosing the school in the pilot study
‘Through the project our school has secured a computer lab, computers, and tablets that will continue being our property and benefit more students’, Mtenga said.
‘Besides, 18 teachers had an opportunity to also obtain some basic ICT skills’.
A beneficiary of the programme, Halima Bakari, appreciated BRAC for the initiative, saying it has helped her acquire ICT knowledge, particularly online entrepreneurship and e-learning skills.
‘The tablets helped us a lot on the side of studies during the Covid-19 outbreak when we were forced to go for a break… we are very grateful’, Bakari said.
