Somalia: NGOs Renew Registration in Hirshabelle

The Hirshabelle State of Somalia directed all non-governmental organisations operating in its territory to register afresh. State officials said that the process would help them keep the right records of non-governmental organisations operating in their region. The authorities set 31 January, 2020, as deadline for registration.

In response to the natural disasters occurring in the region, a number of non-governmental organisations have operations in Hirshabelle, providing relief materials. However, with the high number of organisations providing humanitarian assistance, there was no good data to provide the framework for the accountability of those operating in the region.  The registration process was designed to surface the profiles of the organisations involved in aid and relief efforts in the region. The step was also intended to put numbers to the projects taking place in the region.
