The International Organisation for Migration (IOM), in partnership with the Somalia Humanitarian Fund (SHF), has donated ventilators to the government of Somalia to help the country treat Covid-19 patients.
It is understood that Somalia has the second highest number of Covid-19 cases in the East and Horn of Africa.
The country’s Minister for Health and Human Services, Dr Fawziya Abikar Nur, acknowledged the importance of the donation, adding that hospital capacity would be strengthened to save lives, and provide better healthcare to those in critical conditions.
‘We appreciate the crucial support provided by IOM, SHF, and all other partners working with the Federal Government of Somalia to contain the spread of Covid-19 and to provide life-saving treatment to our people’, she said.
With the SHF funding, IOM will also be providing medical specialists, donating medical items, such as masks and gloves, to help the government’s Covid-19 response.
